New light on Transient States in Condensed Matter.

PRIN project, a National research programme by the Italian Ministry for Instruction, University and Research (MIUR)

Period: 2016-2019

The ambition of project NEWLI has been to obtain significant advances in the study of transient and excited states induced in condensed matter by the absorption of light, exploiting new opportunities in photon and electron based spectroscopy; the focus is on metal and metal oxide nanostructures. The description of light absorption is often limited to a description of ground and final states in the one electron approximation. Instead, a many body description and a physical/chemical understanding of the intermediate states is expected to be of considerable fundamental and applicative importance: rather than knowing simply the outcome of light absorption we seek to understand *how* and *why* it occurred.
This project helped strengthen the EFSL’s national research collaboration network in a topic directly related to the mission of the laboratory and also financed a post-doctoral position for one year of research in the laboratory.
